About

Vyette Tiya (she/her) is a Kenyan-American dancer, interdisciplinary performer, choreographer, teacher, and community organizer based in Philadelphia. Vyette’s artistry is rooted in her cultural identity and diverse dance training. Her work explores human connection, home-making, and future-building.

Vyette has performed at the Smithsonian Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center, McCarter Theatre, Dance Place, Wilma Theatre, Esperanza Arts Center, and Icebox Project Space. Her performance credits include Britta Joy Peterson, Davalois Fearon, Omari Wiles, Keila Cordova/3 Pony Show, Sarah Beth Oppenheim, Carne Viva Dance Theatre, and Vince Johnson. In 2025, Vyette was an artist-in-residence with Earthdance in western Massachusetts, and at Mascher Space in Philadelphia. In spring 2026, Vyette developed a new ensemble work through the Residency for Emerging Artists Program (REAP).

Vyette is an artist-in-residence with Mascher Space Cooperative in Philadelphia. In March 2025, she completed a residency at Earth Dance in Western Massachusetts, where she developed a new solo dance work with a live musician. Currently, Vyette organizes and teaches with Philly Dance Share: a community-driven dance class series in South Philly. She is also a teacher with Dance Church in Philadelphia.

Vyette holds a Bachelor’s degree (international studies and dance) magna cum laude from American University, and a Master’s degree from Princeton University.
